5 Mom Goals To Set To Become A Better Mom - Beyond Committed (2024)

In life there are so many things that come with instruction manuals. Unfortunately, our kids do not. Motherhood is a journey of unexpected twists and turns that is also one of life’s biggest blessings. With all the new, unexpected, and no instruction manual, all you can do is do your best as a mom and trust God for the rest. One way that I have found that helps me both to do my best and grow as a mom is to set mom goals.

You often set goals in other areas of your life, why not do the same for you as a mom? Mom goals are those goals we set for ourselves that will help us to better connect with, love on, and nurture our kids. While also helping you to become a better mom.

She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!”
Proverbs 31:27-29 (NLT)

Being Intentional About Connecting With Your Kids Daily Is A Great Mom Goal

The older my daughters get the more I realize that it is easy to be in the same house and even in the same room with someone and not really connect with them. There is so much to be done and checked off your to-do list that missing opportunities to truly connect with your kids is easy to do. So try being intentional about connecting daily with your kids to be a mom goal.

The way you connect is up to you. You can make sure to spark different types of conversations while you are in the car on your way to drop them off somewhere. Or while you are in the kitchen making dinner and they come to get yet another snack because they just could not wait until dinner was ready. If you kids have a cellphone, try sending them a text with different questions.

The possibilities are endless and you would be amazed at how much you learn about your kids with these little sparks of conversations and questions.

Reading A Book On Parenting Is Also A Great Goal

Although your kids do not come with instruction manuals, there are some great resources out there. There are books on so many different topics that we face in motherhood and different things our kids may go through. Books are a great way for you to gain insight and different perspectives from other parents and potentially adapt them to your unique family.

One of my favorite books on parenting is “5 Love Languages of Children“. I actually stumbled up this book on accident. I had just finished reading the book on marriage “The 5 Love Languages” which I also highly recommend if you have not read it yet. This book was so impactful for me and my marriage, I went on a search to see what other things the author Gary Chapman may have written. Then I found “5 Love Languages of Children“.

This book gave me so much insight on how to love my daughters in a way that was unique to them. So if you have not read this book or have another book in mind, please make sure to pick it up and start making reading books on parenting one of your goals.

Sharing Goal Setting With Your Kids Is A Great Mom Goal

As adults, we learn how important and useful goal setting can be. But what if you learned that earlier in life. A great way for your kids to learn how important goal setting is for you to share it with them. Just like you, your kids have different things they would like to do and achieve even if they do not realize it.

After having a goal sheet that I loved and have been using for years, I thought why not have one for my girls as well. So I created this goal sheet for you to use as well. To help your kids set their own goals and for you to check one more thing off your mom goals list.

Scheduling Family Time Is Also A Great Goal

Your calendar and schedule can often get pretty full with activities, appointments, and the list can go on and on. Often leaving spending quality time with your family further down the list. So this year why not make scheduling family time a mom goal.

They can be things as simple as family game nights or movie nights. Or you can even have family date nights out at your local bowling alley or even a family vacation. The options are endless and can fit whatever timeframe and budget you have.

Scheduling One-on-One With Your Kids Is Another Great Mom Goal

Family time can be fun, but there is just something extra special about spending one-on-one time with your children. This time allows you to connect with and have fun with your kids in special ways. So making time to schedule that time is a great way for you to be intentional about it. Also something both of you can look forward to.

We often make time for what is important to us. So this year commit to making time for you to achieve your mom goals. Whether that is connecting daily, reading a book on parenting, helping your kids set goals, or scheduling family and one-on-one. No matter what goals you set remembering that your journey to being a better mom is one that we are all on together. Setting mom goals is great a way to help us get there.
