8 Great Children's Books about the Tooth Fairy and Losing Teeth (2024)

It’s a big moment when your first baby tooth comes loose!

In our house, we joke that we have the laziest tooth fairy because I never remember to swap out my children’s teeth for a quarter or anything else. (The girls all know the tooth fairy isn’t real and it’s become more funny to them that they DON’T get something, than if they did).

For some kids, losing that first tooth is a big thrill, while for others, the idea of losing part of your body is . . . not so thrilling.

No matter where your child falls, these books about the tooth fairy, wiggly teeth, and new teeth growing in are all a delight!

Enjoying a picnic with his friends, Bear feels his tooth wobbling around and is very nervous until his friends reassure him that it’s perfectly normal. They try to help him pull it out, but it’s finally Bear who wiggles it loose. And best of all, when he tucks it under his pillow, the tooth fairy brings him a big plate of blueberries in exchange!

This beloved series doesn’t skip the Tooth Fairy! In this book, the Tooth Fairy sets out on her daily rounds but it’s not easy! Plenty of gap-toothed kids are anxious to catch her and she’ll have to be very clever to escape.

I love Robert McCloskey (he’s most famous for his Caldecott-winning Make Way for Ducklings) and this darling story with black-and-white illustrations follows Sal (yes, from Blueberries for Sal) on the day she wakes up to discover that one of her teeth is loose. When her tooth falls out without her noticing, she’s very worried that she won’t get to make a wish, but even without the tooth, her wish comes true!

I always get such a kick out of the mischievous cat in this series. In this one, he wants to meet the Tooth Fairy and so comes up with some tricks to get her to return. But it turns out the Tooth Fairy is just as clever as he is!

I’m a lifelong Oliver and Amanda Pig fan and I love this cute tooth book. Amanda has waited so long for her her first wiggly tooth and the big day finally arrived. But it just won’t come out! Father Pig offers to help, but Amanda is worried it will hurt. But while she debates how to get her tooth out, the tooth falls out without Amanda noticing. Can she find it or is she going to miss out on her first tooth fairy visit?

Our dentist in Arizona had a copy of this in the waiting room and we read it every single time we went in – my girls loved this story of the Tooth Fairy who doesn’t wear high heels or a skirt. She has to be ready for action at all time, whether it’s a barking dog or a child trying to catch her.

It’s always a little hard to say goodbye to a tooth. But when you’re a vampire, it’s EXTRA hard to be excited about losing one of your signature fangs!

This sweet book tells about the first time a fairy collected a child’s tooth – I love the dreamy illustrations and the kindness shown.
