While playing Destiny 2 I've observed a number of issues in the past week or two where the client responds with an error trying to contact the Destiny 2 servers on an otherwise healthy PC + internet connection. I understand this problem I'm running into involves a 3rd party tool to manage inventory, but the errors seem to NOT be a problem with the 3rd party tool but the errors are coming directly from the bungie.net API.How to reproduce the problem:- Load Destiny 2- Fly into the Tower- Load the light.gg roll appraiser in a browser (EDIT: or reload the vendors page in DIM to reproduce same issue with a different 3rd party tool) https://www.light.gg/god-roll/roll-appraiser/- Change one of your equipped items in the game client (ex: swap your gloves for different gloves, or anything that triggers a character data state change like dismantling a weapon) - Gear swap will "lag" in limbo for a second before completing- Concurrently we see an error raised in the browser (https://light.gg/): Bungie API reported an error while trying to pull your current vendor inventory https://i.imgur.com/5mPNc6Z.png- Concurrently we also see an error raised in the destiny 2 client: Attention: Contacting Destiny 2 Servers https://i.imgur.com/dzwgQPK.pngIn the web browser, we can see this bungie.net URL is returning a 500 error via the light.gg console debug data, with the response showing error 1688 from the bungie endpoint. I have:- Tried plugging my pc directly into my cable modem, to ensure there's nothing "weird" with my local set up (able to reproduce)- Tried using a different pc with the Destiny 2 client (able to reproduce)- Tried to fetch the light.gg page on a completely different network (laptop->phone->mobile data) while also having my pc directly connected to my cable modem (able to reproduce)- Tried to fetch the light.gg page on a completely different network (pc->phone->mobile data) while also having a different pc directly connected to my cable modem (able to reproduce)So it doesn't seem to be any of my local set up that is causing this. It would be great if this could be looked at and resolved soon. Sometimes the "glitch" is so bad that the Destiny servers kick me back to orbit and I lose progress on whatever activity I'm running. Very annoying. My current workaround is to avoid using 3rd party tools when I'm running activities so that I don't get booted mid-run.Perhaps of note, my vault currently has over 500 items. Pure speculation, but I'm wondering if perhaps the bulk size of my vault + character data is now reaching a large enough blob size (the /Character/Vendor/ endpoint returns a 1.7MB blob) to trigger an intermittent error condition.I have a background in software development, systems engineering, and large scale (many million clients) service scale outs so I'm familiar with a lot of different technical aspects. I have seen bizarre and sometimes very complex issues over the years everything from http rfc violating transparent proxies (you'd be surprised how many downgrade to HTTP/1.0 which doesn't support compression) or gateways that can incur transient hard-to-debug stripping of keep-alive headers). So I get if this is hard to track down. If you need any additional data or want to try to reproduce this issue on a screen share, please feel free to reach out.EDIT MAY, 12:I was able to reproduce this condition using Destiny Inventory Manager (another 3rd party cool). DIM only pulls the Vendor state information on a specific sub-page. ( https://app.destinyitemmanager.com/nnACCOUNTIDnn/d2/vendors). If i reload this page while in game equipping a different item, I can trigger the bug (blocking condition?). When doing this, I don't get an error with DIM but I do get a "contacting destiny 2 servers.." error. This is %100 a problem with the Destiny vendors API end point and needs attention. This is leading to a non-zero number of random "Contacting Destiny server.." and/or weasel, etc errors.Reproducing the same problem with DIM, relevant console output:https://i.imgur.com/IXyPWal.pngDIM, relevant console traffic:https://i.imgur.com/ZcJEZVK.pngThanks!Edit May-23 2024:This was posted today but doesn't fix the underlying issue. It isn't just with friend requests, Bungie.https://i.imgur.com/9IaOJgY.png
