Why Eat a High Protein Breakfast?

Guys, I did it. I am back down to my pre-baby weight! After having my twins 18 months ago, I wanted to lose weight fast, and I knew I had to start with eating right. Now that I’ve accomplished my goal, I want to help others who are struggling with their pregnancy weight loss. While it wasn’t insanely difficult, it did take about six weeks of dedication and steadfast commitment. Besides fitness, the most important thing I changed was my diet, and adding high protein breakfast foods to my days made the world of a difference!

My Plan for Fast Weight Loss

I wanted to incorporate exercise into my weekly routine to make losing weight a lot faster, so I joined Orange Theory in September 2018. By late February 2019, I hadn’t lost much weight, but that didn’t concern me too much. Muscle is denser than fat —while they weigh the same, muscle takes up much less space —and I saw incredible changes in muscle and in my muscle tone. After six months of getting my body fit and toned, I turned my attention to my diet.

Following a High Protein Diet for Weight Loss

During the time I was breastfeeding, I was eating an entire pack of OREOs every two to three days (I wasn’t sharing either!). I needed the calories, but the sugar and fat were definitely not helping. I was only ten pounds above my pre-pregnancy weight, so I decided it was time to take the plunge and get rid of the remaining weight. Beach season was rapidly approaching and I wanted to look my bikini body best!

Counting calories is a huge no-no for me, but I made a point to eat less and in moderation. My most important meals were breakfast and lunch, which I made sure were packed with protein and nutrient-dense. Usually, I would have a protein shake or a protein bar to make it a quick, easy, nutritious meal replacement. I didn’t snack in between meals (getting Invisalign during this time helped with that), and then I ate the same dinner my family had. If they had fajitas, I traded the tortilla for lettuce for a healthy, low-calorie meal. If they ate pulled pork sandwiches, I tossed my pork over salad or only took half a bun to cut back on carbs without sacrificing protein.

My Quick Weight Loss Diet

By being strict on my diet plan to lose weight, I was able to do it QUICKLY (that was important —because we all want to lose weight fast and easily) and effectively. I drank a lot of Bubly, which has zero calories and zero sweeteners BUT the fizz and taste help curb my cravings! Focusing on eating a healthy protein breakfast helped me the most because it was the easiest way to get off on the right foot and maintain my cravings during the day.

My favorite morning protein powder for healthy protein shakes is BSN SYNTHA-6 Edge Protein Powder in Vanilla Milkshake. Vanilla seems to be the most versatile. I always throw in a very large handful of spinach when I add it to smoothies because you can’t taste it, and your body loves it! Another good shake blend is Chocolate Milkshake Protein Powder. If you add a small touch of peppermint extract, it tastes just like mint chocolate chip! Protein bars are by no means a five-star dessert, but they fill you up and get the job done. This Birthday Cake Thin bar was my favorite.
