babe will turn 6 months soon and I want to start mentally preparing for what to feed her and what first foods are best/well tolerated
I was thinking if making purees and putting some in a silicone bowl and just having her explore it with her hands and a silicone spoon
thanks!
any tips or advice appreciated!!!

Every baby is different! We started w mashed banana and my son loved it, next we did avocado, then steamed carrots. My son was a great eater from the start really. Solid starts app is a great resource

my advice is to just feed them what the family is eating. My kids have not liked purées at all but were super enthusiastic for food with texture and flavor.
Offering the spoon at 6mo is a great idea! I did that with my daughter and she used utensils well and consistently by 18mo.

My LO does great with a pre loaded spoon so I just have two spoons and once she finishes what’s on one I’ll hold out the other and she’ll grab it. Some of her favorite soft foods so far have been mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and applesauce

Check out my little eater on instagram
She has great info on introducing solids with a mix of purees/blw approach
She also has a list of first 115 foods and what foods to introduce first

I did yogurt first. My son does not care for it plain but loves it mixed with applesauce.

If you want to do BLW you could always start with softer / mushy food. Banana, avocado, eggs, oatmeal, pancakes etc are all great options!

at 6 months this is what we introduced. I kept a list of every food in the order we introduced to him lol 😆
Carrot 🥕 (homemade purree)
Sweet potato 🥔 (made a baked potato then just spooned it out for him!)
Squash (butternut, winter) (bought purrees)
Peas 🫛 (homemade puree)
Green beans (homemade puree)
Oatmeal (just made some quaker oats like I would for an adult with the oats and water- this one was tougher for him to get used to)
Apple 🍎 (applesauce)
Banana 🍌 (just smashed it up in a bowl)
Pear 🍐 (homemade puree)
Dragonfruit (just cut in small chunks / Mashed up)
we spoon fed until around 10 months. I was a bit worried he'd be behind on using utensils. at 8 months or so he started doing more finger foods and picked it up really fast. and at 10 months when we started helping him use utensils he's picked it up really fast too. within a month or two he could get the food in his mouth if we helped load the spoon. I liked spoon feeding at the beginning so I'd be able to make sure he got thr food actually in him and it avoided messes.
there's so many different ways to approach Solids. I'm happy with our route as it worked well for us but might not work the best for someone else. so continue to research and just try out some things and decide which methods end up working best for your little one.
